Alphabetica Pages

Here's one that's done (J) and one that isn't (A). I really like the pages I've done in two books in the ABC Round Robin I'm in in the alteredbooks Yahoo group.

The A page was covered in three coats of gesso, then brushed with a mixture of three Ranger Alcohol Inks and their blending solution to produce the pink.

I sketched out the letters with a pencil and then decided that I needed to use a stencil to make the A as I really wanted to use a texture stamp for it. I used some deli wrap to protect the pink and cut out the A, adhering the edges securely with Duo glue, a favorite adhesive so no ink would seep under the paper. That worked really well but since Sharon, the owner of the book, had glued a pretty sturdy library pocket to the other side of the page, my stamp didn't work too well, leaving bare spots instead of a rich, overall texture. On top of that, the ink wouldn't dry! Plan B was to smear the ink to a grey overall and then stamp over it in metallic gold, using a pad under the page and the same texture stamp. That wasn't successful either. :(

On to plan C: emboss the letter in gold and decorate it some other way. That worked great. I filled in the other letters with a Zig Calligraphy pen. I've had two of them for a while now and have never used them for anything significant. They really provide nice coverage and a good degree of opacity which is something I have often found lacking in other calligraphy pens.

I've found an angel to decorate the remainder of the page.

This page just happened very quickly. I was wondering what other page and letter I'd do in this book, just leafing through it, when I came across a page with some tulips on it. They appealed for some reason and I reached for the yellow Golden Fluid Acrylic. The tulips still showed through too much, so I grabbed some light magenta Golden tube acrylic and dabbed it on randomly. The heat gun helped it dry quickly and I pencilled in the J. Joy just seemed to be the right word for this page. I'm pretty sure that I'm not doing anything more to it.

If you'd like to see the pages I did in Kathy's book, click on the title of this post to go to the ABC RR Blog the group is doing.

I must be going now, my lovelies. I've got more books to make and decos to work in, not to mention Fairy Princess Diary pages for a swap!

I was just wondering how you were coming on the most recent ABC RR book. Looking good. I can't wait to see it in person! (But no pressure, it's not like I'm sitting around bored waiting for it...LOL)
