Oh My!
I've signed up to trade for this postcard with Susan Lenz for her CyberFyber, an international exhibition scheduled for January 8th through 20th, 2009 at Gallery 80808, 808 Lady Street in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
So now I HAVE to get going and make one to send to her, for which I've given myself the deadline of the end of the week. I missed out on the ones with the arches that she made from a quilt that were all in the first batch. This one appealed to me because it reminds me of some work I did back in the 80's when I was teaching fabric painting with Procion H Fiber Reactive Dyes at the Old Armory Cultural Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio.
I really did mean to post to you all sooner than this. Time just flies by and I don't know where it's going. Just slipping through my fingers.
I don't like that. I'll work on it.

Hi!
Thanks so much for blogging about CYBER FYBER and especially for trading with me! Sorry you missed out on the earlier cards, but evidently I missed out on some fantastic classes back in Columbus, Ohio!
I got my undergraduate from OSU in Medieval and Renaissance Studies in 1980 and went to one year of grad school in history of art before getting married to Steve. Steve was pursuing a much more lucrative course of studies...finished his MS in Atmospheric Sciences in 1980 and his PhD in Civil Engineering in 1986.
It was during these early years of our marriage that I found embroidery. Oh, yeah, my grandmother tried to teach me once...an ugly doily...she kept slapping my hands and picking out the work as "imperfect"...and I already knew what it was suppose to look like! Anyway, we'd go to the State Fair and browse through the Arts and Crafts. I'd say, "I could do that". Steve would say, "Put your money where your mouth is!"
Due to lack of funds, I used library books and supplies purchased on sale at Franks Nursery and Crafts...teaching myself. I finally found the local chapter of EGA in 1985...three months before we moved south. I could have used a decent class in something exciting!
Of course, Steve hated engineering. I started a custom picture framing shop. He joined me three years into our life here in South Carolina. I didn't admit (even to myself) an artistic calling until about seven years ago...even though there were plenty of signs throughout my life that this was my true destiny.
Well, thanks for trading with another Ohio girl!
Susan
