The Evidence

Evidence of Blogging

That is the January Challenge for Michelle Ward's Street Team. Being a fan of Michelle's and thinking that the Street Team is an excellent idea, I like to make a point of participating. All the fun people hang out there, Be... Dream... Play...'s eb, Jill from Follow Your Bliss, and my pal, &rew of Urban Paper Arts, to name a very few.

So this month's challenge was to take a post from your blog and to pen and paper journal about it. Having a CalendarGirlz project that needed more work done in it and a page already prepared with some Glimmer Mists, I looked around my work table to figure out what to start with. Punchinella is always fun. I can put it against the page and rub a Creamy Brown Cat's Eye Chalk pad against it. How about some Warm Red too? Hmmm... it's got a nice shimmer going on there and the red is mixing with the Aspen Yellow Glimmer Mist to make a really cool orange.

It must be really cool if I called it that. I dont much like yellow, orange or brown!
OK, that's a good start. Now which blog entry to choose? I have more to say on the topic of Artsy Fartsy.

I've already told you, my lovelies, how much it bugs the crap out of me and pretty much just pisses me off generally when people can't admit that they make art through some sense of false humility or inferiority complex. Someone read that post and was giggling her head off about how it "freaks you out". OK, get this. It doesn't freak me out. Wanna know what freaks me out? People being cruel to the weak like the macho assholes who punch babies for crying, or torture animals, or take advantage of old people. That freaks me out. In fact, it freaks me out so much that I could find a use for an AK-47 or whatever the stupid gun of choice is these days. (I don't know much - aka anything - about guns. Don't want to know. Wish nobody needed to know.) I'd line them all up and put them out of their misery because they can't be enjoying life if they can't find anything else to do than that. And we sure don't need them to reproduce! (OK, so I'd just get killed trying to beat the crap out of the one in front of me. This is my fantasy. Be quiet.) My mom's heart taking a cue from her brain and forgetting which order the beat goes in. That freaks me out. Thinking about the cretin who tied my Golden Retrievers in the back of a pick-up truck and then when the puppy jumped out and got his leg mangled, didn't take him to a vet. This would be the same creep who turned them loose on busy city streets to get lost or hit by a car just to piss off his soon to be ex-wife. (Gee, gotta wonder why anyone would divorce that, don't you?) Now THAT freaks me out. People being idiots doesn't freak me out. It annoys me. I've got a sense of proportion.

Now you see why I stick to topics like people who use the pseudo-word 'arting' to describe an activity. It annoys me enough to write about it, but doesn't make me want to DO anything else about it. I wrote a post once to a Yahoo group I belong to about using quality materials. All the flames (incendiary replies by people who got mad when they read it) I received inspired me to post about it here. I post about a lot of things here that are purely my opinion whether they are shared by others or not. Hey, it's my blog, so I can do that! ;-)) If I'm lucky, you'll come back and read again and maybe even leave a comment so that I know you were here.

Yeah, OK, I digressed. Using 'arting' to describe the creation of art. Hmmm... Maybe what bothers me most about this is not that I take my art so seriously or that they apparently don't take theirs seriously at all. I think that the thing that really annoys me the most about it is that I'm so sick of how people abuse the English language, even if we are here in America where we seem to abuse everything.

Let's just speak/write American, okay? I'm not asking for perfection in grammar - and would I recognize it if it bopped me on the nose? I'm just looking for a little clarity and sanity here. I know I can't do those awful things to those awful people and really might not even if I could definitely get away with sinking to their level.

But is it too much to ask others to have a tiny bit of kindness in their prose for the words that enrich our lives?

Love your piece, the colors and writing are beautiful....and thought provoking! I have to say that I am one of the many that says "arting" but not because I am belittling my art, I'm just lazy when writing. I love what I do and yes, I even love my "art". It's who I am! I do have a problem though, with "artsy fartsy and crafty". I love my husband but if he tells someone I am either artsy fartsy or crafty again, I'm going to go ballistic!

Hi Marilyn... love the journal page, very nicely done! And I understand your sentiments about "arting"... somehow makes me think of farting, and that's just not right! I "play" in my studio, because someone once said "serious art requires serious play", and I believe that! All my best, K.

I've never heard of "arting" and I'll have to admit, when I saw your page, I had to read through your post and convince myself you didn't write a page about farting. Not that there is anything wrong with farting...I just thought, what the? Anyway....never heard it before and I agree with several of your comments too! It's an attractive page!

I agree with just about everything that you said... about guns and cruel people who hurt animals... all of that... I guess the word "arting" never particularly got under my skin, but lots of things like that about people messing with the english language and not even attempting to use it properly do... I mean when people make music they don't say they are "musicing" do they?

I happen to be an artist at my day job (not afraid to say it either!) and I have taken my boss to task when he wants me to rework a project and he says something like, "can you play around with this some more and make it more....." I tell him what I do is not "playing" it's work...you wouldn't say something like that to an electrician or plumber... but art is seen as "fun" it's "playing"....drives me nuts!

So anyway... I hear ya! Great rant...they do feel good sometimes don't they... all the better when you find other like-minded souls who boost you up and say AMEN!

Great piece to express it, too...
